Distinctive narrow forewing with acutely angled apex and light brown general coloration.
Three forms occure in the UK and are unlikely to be confused with any other species. f. flavana: veins stand out whitish, scattered black scales, only a hint of a blackish disco-cellular spot. f. uliginosana: large black disco-cellular spot. f. striana: medial longitudinal blackish to ferruginous-brown streak from base to apex.
